Months after releasing "Pity Party", Sona started writing a live set for a very delayed launch gig. As the songs were short in length, "In the Air" was born out of the goal of creating pockets of live improvisation within the show; extended intros and outros, interludes, elongations, drones and meditations on themes played by her and her wonderfully talented band. It became its own standalone song as Sona pieced together ideas and rehearsed, and was performed for the first time at the launch in November 2019.

Combining written and improvised elements, it was her first attempt at string arrangement, performed on record by Mat Roberts and Anne Han. The song is about struggling to stay afloat among the overwhelming dissociation that's become part of all our lives; the feeling of belonging nowhere and nothing belonging to you.
